Well done, Richard!  Truly in the JRA spirit to sail a long way to meet and sail with another junkie.  It's great to see members organising their own junkets large and small.  Sounds like there's an interesting and enthusiastic group of Coromandel owners, too.  I'm looking forward to hearing more about you all.

I've been following your blog - you seem to have had an eventful and successful summer.  I'm sure you will be well prepared for your Jester Challenge.

Indeed, a Junket of Junkettes.  Well done Richard.

Just to make things confusing, here's a Coromandel called Junket that'll be relaunched soon.

These are the ones I'm in touch with:

    • Tammy Norie (itinerant)
    • Sinobee (Brighton)
    • Siskin (Edam)
    • Gavin Dalglish's Coromandel (Brittany)
    • Steve Crowther's Coromandel (Tollesbury)
    • Junket (Port Edgar)
All are either sailing or getting there.

    Your wish is my command.

Now we just have to get three or more together!

Coromandel 77 / Siskin now in the water and sailed for the first time. Tammy Norie + Siskin got together and made Siskin's maidentrip from Huizen to Edam in the Netherlands. Saturday light following winds. Sunday east to north east 5 to 6. Siskin seems to function properly and performs as expected. I had a great time!!!

    Almost one year on.

    • Got rid of osmosis - stripped, dried, recovered and anti-fouled
    • Stripped out interior lining and repainted inside (HORROR!!!!)
    • Now last hurdle - getting the mast ready for restepping.

One more Coromandel on the water in August.

    Can't wait!

The wall thickness on mine is 3,5 mm. The diameter is identical. I end up with a length of about 8,35m. Think your 30kg is not far off. The sleeve on SISKIN is a device that could hold a flagpole in place. It weighs in at 20kg in itself.

While creating this setup the mast received a fair amount of holes drilled into it and a large selection of rivots injected into it. Not a happy state of things.

So - when I run into a flagpole of some appropriate dimension - I think I will not hesitate.

Espcially with you hinge input - very highly appreciated - thanx!

    As a check I just did a calculation for a 110mm outer diameter 3mm thick 8m aluminium tube.  It ought to be (π*(0.110/2)^2 - π*(0.110/2 - 0.003)^2) * 8 * 2700 = 21kg.  So I'm missing some mass somewhere and will measure more carefully!

My mast diameter is about 110mm at deck level and has about 3mm thick walls. I don't think it is tapered. I can measure it more carefully when I'm next aboard. My mast weighs 30-40kg. I know it takes 30kg of force to lift it on the hinge, and that's most of the weight.

I can't tell you anything about the materials except that I would do a lot of research before replacing mine. There's aluminium and then there's aluminium.
