If magazines etc are not interested in this idea,  I have a young relative who has been studying photography and cinematography at Uni who is producing some very interesting work......   he might be persuaded to make a few short videos!

Jim - and Karlis - this is a great idea.  Your committee is pretty busy with running  the website, sorting out membership issues, creating magazines, investigating CIC status and a few other things at the moment.  Maybe you two would like to move this idea forward?  Why not look a bit further in to the matter and then contact one of us when if you think we can get this idea up and running?  You both obviously have a pretty clear picture of what you want to achieve.  This is just the sort of thing we'd love to facilitate.

Thanks, Karlis, this is the kind of reply I was hoping for. I think breaking the topic into bit-size pieces is a good idea.

I would also like to suggest the idea of an introductory overview made with a sailing magazine. This would give us international exposure and wet the appetite of viewers for more detailed information.

I agree. The best videos I've seen are from Roger Taylor, and I love watching his story, but they could be much better. I'm not a video producer, but this is what I would like to see:

Single topic videos in a series. For example:  Reefing. Mast position. Yard attachment point. Sail fabric. Mast construction. Sheeting. Batten types. Drift. Throat hauling parrel. Boat of the month. etc.

    Keep 'em short,  1 - 5 min.

Follow a consistent format with a script or at least an outline prior to filming.

Some kind of professional production, include pre- and post- production. Edited. Subtitles. labels on screen. Title cards.

Lav/lapel mics, good cameras and lighting.

chosen & labeled screenshots & description for youtube

    Sample Outline:

    spoken Intro (<5 sec)

series title card (logo, theme audio) (~2 sec)

    episode content (1-5 min)

Closing title: logo, more video links, subscribe link. Join JRA link (5 sec)

So far I have found video depictions of the junk rig online to be very limited. Limited to footage from the cockpit or shaky hand-held footage taken during rallies or whatever.
I would like to suggest we partner with a sailing magazine to do an instructional video. They routinely do new-boat reviews. They help us, they get a super article. We supply the script, the boats, including a chase boat and they bring the cameraman/cinematographer. Perhaps a Bermudan rig and a junk rig sailing together on different tacks, heaving to, reefing; the view from the cockpit (restricted on the Bermudan). Also closeups with voice-over of the rigs details.
Then....one could intersperse the narrative with 3D-CAD drawings, described in a separate post.
