Thanks for posting that, Arne. What a great video. And such a nifty yuloh, especially the arrangement for keeping it on its pin. I'm really glad to have gotten to see that.

    Thanks again!

A Nordic Folkboat with a yuloh

I just came across a 16minutes long video clip of the Nordic Folkboat, Lorraine, on the west coast of USA.
It is owned, sailed and kept in mint conditions by her owner, Carol Hasse. One of the things she demonstrates is her yuloh, really a piece of fine carpentry. Looks good in every way.

    Well worth a look:

One of my winter projects is to make a yuloh for Fantail.  In a flat calm, she doesn't need much power to push her along and it would be a good work out and quieter than an engine.  Seeing Zebedee 'rowtor' sailing has impressed me - he can walk away from Fantail in conditions of zephyrs interspersed with calms.

I had a couple of engine break downs due to cooling problems last year and thinking about alternatives system for getting into and out of marina's without an engine.   After  reading about the Yuloh on this site, what little I've read looks promising.  I've seen the drawings, I'm keen to learn more and if possible, get some practical experience before making one.  Can it be used to scull in reverse? Is there any member within a couple of hours driving of Lowestoft able to assist with a practical session?

Definitely, this is what my Jonquette will be using as an auxilliary propulsion solution...
