I have opened the 2016 AGM page early in order to create a forum for this discussion. It can be found from the General Meetings entry in the menu on the left, ofr you can go to it directly via this link. Members are requested to continue any further discussion of this topic there.

Sounds like you guys up there are starting to get the idea.  Our junkets in NZ often end up as being 'rolling junkets' - but if boat A's plans don't work out for some reason, boat B carries on to the original plan and A comes along later.  So sailing in company is great, but not necessary.

Our big bash these days is the Russell Boating Club's Tall Ships Regatta.  The weather was pretty dire on the days preceding it this year, so it was a case of grab the opportunity and go.  Had things gone according to plan, our fleet would have commenced at Auckland, picking up others along the way and arriving en masse in the BOI to astonish the natives.  Maybe next year.  But sailing with one or more junks from A to B is great fun, dramatically shortens the passage (at least mentally) and is not something most of us get to do very often.  I really hope the idea works out and that your Kingfisher is ready to go at the time, Chris.

And you will both be very welcome!

The AGM will probably be on the Saturday afternoon (28th) followed by 2 days of sailing and associated fun! We are hopeful of a very good turnout of members' boats this year, so there should be plenty of opportunity for everyone to experience a variety of sailing.

There has been some talk of a JRA fleet (Armada?) forming a 'rolling junket' along the south coast on the way to Falmouth, possibly from as far away as the Solent and collecting boats from ports on the way, such as Poole, Exmouth, Dartmouth and Plymouth. While the timing might prove tricky, this would be great fun if it can be arranged.

I am certainly looking forward to it.

    Hi Maxime,

    Welcome to the JRA.

I'm a relatively new member too, & I'm hoping to come to the Rally and AGM. Hopefully with my Kingfisher 20 with new junk rig. (That depends on getting her ready in time, and on weather on the weekend, but I'm hopeful).

I'm not sure what events are planned either, but I'm sure details will be posted fairly soon.

I look forward to seeing you and other members there.

    Hi,

I've been lurking on the sidelines of the junk rig world for some time now. As I mentioned in other threads, I bought a Colvin Gazelle in 2009 never got the chance to sail it in the short time I had it (but I did start sewing up a mainsail for it). Despite having read and fantasized about the rig for so long, I've never sailed one.

This year, I may be able to attend the AGM on May 28th. It would be interesting to meet fellow "junkies", and perhaps to finally sail on a junk. All to feed the dream.

What kind of sailing activities are being planned, and how can I find a berth?
