    It was an Acer, paid $1000 for it, a basic model - the equivalent computer is now selling for about $600.  The entire insides were severely corroded, all the ports etc, and the hard drive failed, although I'd never had it on deck and stored it inside a leather case. I will eventually buy a notebook or something but my funds are limited and I am hanging onto every dollar until I finish the rig conversion, not being sure just how much it will cost in the end.

    Thanks for the complements, most of the donkey work has been done by David Tyler he having the time. I just give him technical support when he needs it and of cause caretaker the site when it's needed. 

    Must say, two years is a rather short life for a laptop, even for one that goes to sea. What brand was it?

    Thanks, my laptop, only two years old, died a sudden death recently - salty air the experts claimed - so I am using internet cafes and am restricted to whatever programs they have available.  I will probably get another notebook or something eventually but am conserving all my resources at the moment for the junk rig conversion!  I will just have to be patient for now.  Small glitches are to be expected in a new project and so far I am most impressed with your efforts.

    I have not yet tried on the Ms OS as I and the entire company who's IT resources that I am responsible for run on Linux. I am going to setup a virtual MS OS so that in future I can check things out on that OS as well before we release.

    Page 8 contains some type of error (Acrobat does not say what). In Acrobat (Linux version) a message comes up but once you acknowledge it, you can carry on. Evince the native Linux viewer does not even notice an error. Firefox preview notices the error but lets you carry on reading.

    We have contacted Fred Barter who created the pdf and hopefully a fix will be coming soon. In the meanwhile, have you tried an alternative pdf reader. Adobe Acrobat is not the only one. PDF_Xchange viewer is one alternative that I have heard spoken well of and there are others.

    Tasmania is a lovely place in the summer.  My friend who is going to make my sail has a loft there near Kettering, Russell Streckfuss of Storm Bay Sails.  He has a cutter called Homer, a wife, Sue, and a young son, Riley.  Russell is a good sailmaker and they are lovely people who've cruised the East coast of Australia as far north as Lizard Island.  They enjoy the company of cruising folk and you should look them up.  If you send me a private email at yachtarion@hotmail.com I can give you their contact details.  I'll tell Russel you are coming that way.  I think Alan on Zebedee makes a big impression everywhere.  He sailed into Cairns 14 days out of Sydney, tacking dozens of times up the inlet against the wind and tide.  A week later he set off on a non-stop passage to Gove, going without sleep for 36 hours in the Torres Strait, followed by a 23 day passage to Borneo.  Since then his sailing has been a little more relaxed!

    Hello Graham, good to have you aboard. I haven't had your luck in crossing tracks with Zebedee, but in New Zealand I kept getting VHF calls from people who thought I was Zebedee! She must have made quite an impression as she sailed there.
    I sailed up from Sydney as far as Brisbane, but unfortunately Whitsunday I. would have been too far north for me, since I want to be in Tasmania for the summer.
