Well you wouldn't, would you?  You'd just switch your ears off!

Good hint, however on board La Chica nothing chinks or rattles... ever. In twenty one years of living on board and sailing her, I have never heard a single rattle, squeak or chink and keeping it that way has not cost me a cent :-). However I do use towels to protect things and will give your system a try as well as it may require less stowage space.

Buy a packet of one gallon Ziploc plastic bags. Find some padding such as one inch polyether foam, upholstery wadding, rags or other soft stuff, and cut squares that loosely fill the bags. Use them to pad and wedge plates, bowls, mugs and glasses, tins, jars and bottles - all the things that shake, rattle and roll on a rough passage.
It's the Ziploc bag that makes the difference. Padding material on its own quickly gets damp, salty and mildewed.

The Norwegian Lifeboat Organisation ("Redningsselskapet") publishes every 2 years a thick book of over 600 Norwegian harbours and free anchorages (+ 75 Swedish and 12 Danish).  FREE to all members.

It used to be in Norwegian/English/German.  Now only in Norwegian, but pretty obvious to any sailor, and absolutely invaluable for anyone cruising in this fantastic area.

Well, you can download a lot of hard information about the South Orkney Is, South Georgia and Newfoundland/Labrador from my website.  I am still working on upgrading both charts and text, but contact me if you want the lot in its unimproved state!

While we are all looking at the least expensive and most durable methods of building or improving our Junk Rigs finding good and reliable information on places to go is a major concern once we have cut the lines to the wharf.

Free is always the best price to pay and when the information is exceptionally good then the value is priceless.

I have found a site at http://www.freecruisingguide.com/ that has free high quality Cruising Guides to many of the Caribbean areas. I have read a couple of them to confirm that the information is the same as I have experienced and they are good.

Any other sources of Cruising Guides out there?

You'll also be pleased to know that I used water based paint for the interior. It has come out very, very well. A number of people have asked if it was sprayed on but I just used a roller as we discussed when you were here. Looking forward to seeing you when you get back.

After scraping off the old foam-vinyl lining I have used a water based acrylic, sold as Bathroom or Durable vinyl emulsion.  It is pretty tough once dried, and very easy to apply and clean up. I even tried it out on a section of floor, it stayed stuck well enough, though needs freshening up once in a while.

Another goody is Thopmson roof paint, a very thick coat acrylic.  Cheap & easy way to seal bits of wood. Use out side, though perhaps not for areas normally immersed.  Only comes in grey.

Well done Paul, they look great. I remember discussing the catches with you on board La Chica but your final solution is way better.
