    Ar 1437 in English time:

    No luck today, as there is hardly any wind. I see that Amiina and another Splinter, Sparkle, have retired, as have lots of others. Only Elfin  has reached The Needles, while Whisper is heading westwards, and is probably motoring.

    So far, I cannot se that anyone has finished, but Class 40 catamarans are approaching..

    Better luck next year…

    Hi David

    Amiina all set to go. 

    We think we were 106 out of the ISC boats. 

    ca. 600 boats in all. Can do more research when back home, mid August, after 3 weeks in USA.

    Good luck to Amiina and her crew, Edward?, on this weekend's Race around the Island. 

    Did I read last year's results correctly?  106th overall? or is that "just" in the ISC handicap system of about 600 boats.  

    Very good result if I have read it correctly and again, good luck this weekend.

    It is actually not that easy to analyse the RTI results.  If you want total details go to the results section of the J.P.Morgan RTI website <  http://www.roundtheisland.org.uk  >.
    The spreadsheet version gives boat details and positions, the PDF gives positions only.
    Unfortunately there were no other Splinters or Pandoras competing this year, so impossible to get direct comparisons.  Also have no idea about which crews were really experienced hot racers, and which were like us ( 3 chaps out for some fun & ca. 200 yrs. between us).  However  I have selected a few from the spreadsheet to give an idea of how we got on.  Not being a boat techie. I am not that hot on my selections!

    Hope this helps you understand how we did, or didn't!!!!

    Mark, Edward is on holiday for a while so his reply may be some time coming.

You looked as though you were realy flying along, quite a performance for such a small boat. Regarding handicaps, they always leave you wondering why yours is so bad (a Westerly Centaur always wins our local races), but is this the issue? What is of interest is how you compare with similar boats (and I suppose similar crews). Were there any at all similar and how did they fare? Kind regards Mark

    Hei Arne,
    Many thanks for your help.  I tried various formats, and eventually by pasting it from Word as 'Plain Text', then it suddenly accepted my draft.  However now I am getting the ends of each line chopped off.  I remember you had this problem once.  How did you cure that?
    David has very kindly posted a link to the article as it will appear in the Magazine, with some photos.  This looks very much better.

    Pasting into fora as recommended by WA is explained in the site's Help page in the menu on the left. Always worth checking there first!

    Thank you very much for your presentation of my article, and use of photos.  The link works well too.  Hope it encourages some more to have a go, there are many other races around the world where a few Junk entries would promote the message.
