    hi jami

the breaking strength of the thinner mast may be around a third of that of your current mast. (depending on the alloy 5mm in aluminium and 3mm in steel play in the same region. but the diameter makes the big difference.)

The mast on my 22ft Haru is 150x5mm aluminium tube.

I came upon some cheapish 90x3mm stainless steel tube (specific qualities unknown).

The weight seems to be about the same, but the 90mm would cut windage significantly.

What kind of difference do you estimate these to have in terms of strength and flexing, please?
